DON’T KNOCK IT UNTIL YOU’VE TRIED IT. Nick Tahou’s Garbage Plate, a Rochester, NY staple, I grew up with these beauties. Here’s how it works-

A Garbage Plate is a combination of one selection of cheeseburger, hamburger, red hots, white hots (a whole other story), Italian sausage, chicken tender, fish (haddock), fried ham, grilled cheese, or eggs; and two sides of either home fries, French fries, baked beans, or macaroni salad. On top of that are the options of mustard and onions, ketchup, and Nick’s proprietary hot sauce, a greasy sauce with spices and ground beef. It’s served with rolls or Italian toast on the side fresh from the bakery next door.

Dozens of other places around Rochester serve up similar plates, but Nick Tahou’s is where to go to get the real deal.

If you’ve heard me rant about Wegmans, you’ve probably heard me rant about garbage plates. They are things of terrible beauty.

mattfisher:

Yes i know. People like to be over Wes Anderson. And definitely people like to be over Ben Stiller. But amidst Anderson’s borderline ridiculous hyper stylized twee world that drives many people nuts…or they like to fake that it drives them nuts because that is where they are supposed to be at in their lives, this scene in “The Royal Tenenbaums” is still one of the most realistic scenes in film. It tears me apart everytime I watch it and kind of sums up everything. Life is hard. We get beaten down by the hard times we have experienced and get sucked into our daily patterns just pushing ahead so we don’t have to deal with the pain. And we never get to truly resolve the issues we have with people with the giant speeches we wish/hope/imagine should be said. Instead we just hope to have these few moments, where we can stop amongst the wear and tear of life and truly admit what is going on in our hearts. Its been a rough year dad.

I’d add something here, but I have no idea how I’d say it.
